My Bikes

I've always been drawn to the two wheeled expression of forward motion. Flying through an s-curve on a motorcycle, racing down a steep single trail on a mountain bike, or panting uphill to reach the top... what a feeling.

1999 GT zaskar 3000. I replaced the stem with a higher one to obtain a more comfortable riding position and avoid neck pain. From the Bike Store. Still in regular use as of July 2010 but with different wheels and saddle, need to update the pic ...

1997 GT Karakoram. Here too I raised the stem to my convenience, which helped a lot during long tours. The thick bio grip handles have proved helpful for preventing wrist pain. Bought at Wheelhouse. 2010: Awaiting to be transformed into a city bike for commuter use.

Challenge Hurricane

Epic Expert

2006: After two seasons with borrowed recumbents I bought this Challenge Hurricane from Radieschen in Freiburg im Breisgau, they custom built it to my specifications. I had two great tours in Italy and France with it so far. Great for flat terrain, like circling lake Zurich on an early Sunday morning, and lots of fun downhill.

The time for a full suspension bike was ripe last year and so this became a gift for my 50th birthday: 2008 Specialized Epic Expert, a great "previous season deal" from Happy Sport in Zürich Albisrieden. One of the reasons for selecting it, besides that I love the way it rides: only full suspension bike I know with room for two bottle cages. Currently the bike I use most (Summer 2010)

City Bike

Of course none of the bikes above will ever be seen parked on a sidewalk. For errands around town or for commuting I have a rusty 21-speed with grocery basket. I used it daily to and from Bahnhof Hardbrücke from 2006 to 2010. Since I have a new job in an out of town location I don't ride it very often anymore.
